October Meeting – 10 Amendments to the Texas Constitution
Our most recent Village Republican Women meetings have focused on the 2019 November ballot. So far, we’ve covered Houston City Council races for Districts A & G, At-Large, 1, 2, 3, 4, & 5, as well as the race to be the next mayor of Houston. State Representative Jim Murphy will be wrapping-up our “Election 2019” series by covering the ten proposed amendments to our Texas Constitution.
Representative Murphy currently serves in the Texas House, representing District 133 in West Houston. He is in his sixth term and his third consecutive term as a Committee Chairman. Murphy currently serves as the Chairman of the House Committee on Pensions, Investments, and Financial Services and as a member of the Ways & Means Committee. During the 86th Legislative Session, Murphy was elected by his colleagues as Chairman of the Harris County delegation and has proudly served two terms as Floor Leader for the House Republican Caucus. Most recently, he was elected by his peers to be Vice Chair of the House Republican Caucus.
Murphy’s service focuses on expanding the economy, ensuring public safety, improving education and empowering taxpayers. His achievements in these areas have been recognized by associations representing local and statewide business communities, law enforcement and public education, as well as pro-life and pro-taxpayer advocacy groups. Representative Murphy has been named “Legislator of the Year” by organizations representing local governments, public charter schools, and private business.
