November Meeting – Tribute to Our Veterans
VRW will provide complimentary lunch to all Vets who RSVP in advance! We’re pleased to welcome The Honorable Rick Miller, Texas State Representative District 26.
Rick Miller is a graduate of the U. S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland and experienced Naval Aviator. He made numerous carrier deployments and held top leadership positions in carrier-based squadrons and Pentagon shore assignments for both the Joint Chief’s and Secretary of the Navy’s staffs.
After obtaining a Master’s degree in National Resource Strategy from the Industrial College of the Armed Forces, he served as the Senior Fellow on the Chief of Naval Operations Strategic Studies Group to develop innovative war fighting concepts for a 21st Century Navy. Over his 30 year Naval career, he also served as a Naval base commander and received numerous personal awards including the Defense Superior Service Award; (3) Legion of Merit Awards; (2) Meritorious Service Awards; and Navy Commendation Award; finally leaving the Navy with the rank of Captain.
After transitioning to private life, Rep. Miller served as a senior consultant on organizational improvement and development, integration of acquired companies, general training, and human resource functions. He founded TREVANION GROUP, LLC, where he currently serves as company President.
In 2012, Rick succeeded in winning a very hotly contested race for the open House District 26 seat, was re-elected in 2014 and is currently serving in his second term. In the most recent 84th Legislative session, Speaker Strauss appointed Rep. Miller to serve on the esteemed House Committees of Public Health & Appropriations. Ever a champion of conservative ideals, he has also taken a lead role in championing the ‘Convention of States’ legislation in the Texas House of Representatives.
In addition to serving in the legislature, Rep. Miller has remained active in area Rotary and Church activities and previously served on the Policy Board of Sugar Land Regional Airport and as Chairman of the Fort Bend County Republican Party. He and his long time wife, Babs, currently reside in Sugar Land, and have had three wonderful sons and now have three wonderful grandchildren.
Fun fact: Rep. Miller was a pitcher on the United States Olympic Baseball Team during the 1968 games held in Mexico City!
