March Meeting – The Changing Face of Texas Politics
The Honorable Debra Ibarra Mayfield, Judge Harris County Court at Law No. 1 is our guest speaker for March 26, 2014.
After being nominated by Commissioner Jack Morman, Debra Ibarra Mayfield was confirmed by a unanimous vote of the Commissioners’ Court as presiding judge of Harris County Civil Court-at-Law No. 1 on October 11, 2011.
Judge Mayfield, a native Texas and Houstonian, was raised in Harris County Precinct 1 in the northeast part of Houston. As part of the first generation in her family to attend college, she earned a bachelor’s degree from Texas A& M University and her law degree from South Texas College of Law.
Judge Mayfield has an amazing story which has earned her numerous accolades. She has a unique insight regarding women in Harris County politics and will speak to us about “The Changing Face of Texas Politics”.
Her bio includes: former partner, civil defense, litigation and appellate practice; former briefing attorney, Fourteenth Court of Appeals, Past President, Mexican-American Bar Association of Houston; Fellow, Texas Bar Foundation; 2013 “Woman on the Move” by Texas Executive Women; former court-appointed bilingual guardian ad litem; former court-appointed special commissioner for eminent domain proceedings; and member, Houston First Baptist Church. Judge Mayfield is married and the mother of two children.
