Our April meeting was truly one for the history books. Village members were proud to welcome
Speaker of the Texas House of Representatives Dustin Burrows, whose remarks celebrated recent
legislative achievements while outlining a clear vision for Texas’s future. I personally enjoyed
the opportunity to introduce Speaker Burrows to the rich legacy within our membership. Penny
Remick and her daughter Lindsay Hughes are direct descendants of Sam Houston, while Joyce
Ellington is a great grandniece of Mirabeau Lamar.

We’re in the homestretch of the primary season with a few important races to play out. Let’s
reflect on what we’ve seen so far.
The numbers from March 3 are unmistakable and alarming. 200,809 Harris County Republicans
turned out to vote, while 367,109 Democrats cast ballots in the same election. November will be
a battle for the independent voter, and we Republicans must get out our message and win
hearts and minds.

February gave us much to celebrate! Bringing back fond memories of the 80s, our American hockey teams won gold at the Olympics. President Trump delivered a moving and heartfelt State of the Union speech that clearly demonstrated stark differences between the two major parties. And having Todd Starnes at our February meeting was truly a joyful treat!

What a start to the new year! Not even an arctic freeze that gripped much of the
country stopped us! Huge shout-out to Sonia Rivera, 1st VP-Programs, for
being able to “flip” our January and February programs. Known as the
“Breaking Bond” team, an extremely well-respected crime victim advocate,
Andy Kahan of Crime Stoppers Houston, and esteemed FOX26 investigative
reporter Randy Wallace presented an entertaining and “behind the scenes” look
at their long-running television segment series, “Breaking Bond.” Nationally
